'Unbelievable' player turns in statement display but two Reds disappoint: Liverpool's player ratings vs Leicester

Liverpool extended their gap at the top of the Premier League table with a comeback win against Leicester City in what was a foggy night at Anfield.
Jordan Ayew game the visitors a shock lead, but the likes of Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah got their names on the scoresheet to turn the tide in Liverpool’s favour.
And here’s how we rated every player from the game.
Alisson Becker 7: Couldn’t have done much to prevent Ayew’s goal as it was from close-range and also took a deflection. Was a mere spectator for the rest of the game as Liverpool dominated the game.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 8: Fantastic game from the Liverpool vice-captain as he delivered a handful of crosses for the attackers to feed on. Defended quite strongly and was in the thick of the action.
Virgil van Dijk 6: Ayew’s goal was a good bit of play from Leicester but Van Dijk could have done better to prevent the ball from getting to him in the first place. Apart from that moment, the Dutchman was imperious and led the backline without breaking much of a sweat.
Joe Gomez 7: Another solid game for the Englishman, who has deputized incredibly well for the injured Ibrahima Konate. Liverpool are so lucky to have a player of Gomez’s quality in the squad.
Andy Robertson 5: Another game where he didn’t completely convince. Robertson was spun for Ayew’s goal and although he got a handful of crosses into the box, they weren’t of the desired quality.
Ryan Gravenberch 7: Another tidy performance from the Dutch midfielder, who can’t seem to do anything wrong under Slot. Was an imposing presence in the centre of the park and played his way out of trouble with a couple of trademark turns and runs either side of half time.
Alexis Mac Allister 6: Got outmuscled in the centre of the mark on a couple of occasions in the first half but was heavily involved in the second goal as he delivered the assist for Curtis Jones. He was also credited with an assist for Gakpo’s equaliser but that was just a simple pass into the path of the Dutchman, who scored a screamer.
Curtis Jones 7: Marked his 100th Premier League appearance for the club with a great team goal right after the interval to help complete the comeback. He’s loving life under Arne Slot and has quickly become a key player under the Dutchman.
Mohamed Salah 8: Another day, another goal for the Egyptian king, who was in the thick of the action right from the get-go. Hit the post in the first half and scored the Reds’ third of the night with a fantastic left-footed finish. A season for the history books so far.
Darwin Nunez 5: Tried his best but once again drew a blank in front of goal for Liverpool. With Diogo Jota, Federico Chiesa and Luis Diaz available for selection, it’s hard to see Slot persist with the Uruguayan in the coming weeks.
Cody Gakpo 9 – Man of the Match: Undoubtedly the best player on the pitch even before his brilliant equaliser towards the end of the first half and is slowly starting to cement his spot as Slot’s preferred left-winger. One of his best games of the season and brought up his 10th goal across all competitions.
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler described Gakpo as an ‘unbelievable’ player and he is showing exactly why he’s earned such high praise this season.
Substitutes
Diogo Jota 6: Got himself in a few good positions inside the box after replacing Nunez in the second half.
Dominik Szoboszlai 5: Came on for Jones late in the game and earned himself a costly booking, due to which he’ll miss the Premier League clash against West Ham United due to a suspension.
Wataru Endo, Harvey Elliott and Kostas Tsimikas N/A: Came on with ten minutes left on the clock to see off the game and didn’t do enough to warrant a rating.
