Liverpool have so far had an excellent injury record under Arne Slot this season.

The Reds’ fitness problems had become something of an unfortunate recurring theme during much of Jurgen Klopp’s time with the Reds.

But after a new Liverpool coaching team were appointed with Slot over the summer, things have improved in the early knockings of the campaign.

Alisson Becker has picked up a small problem but aside from the goalkeeper and Harvey Elliott – who was injured on international duty – Liverpool have kept everybody fit.

Away from Anfield, though, Liverpool’s loan army are not subjected to the same physical conditioning they are back home.

And, unfortunately, one promising player has now been confirmed as having picked up an issue while out on-loan.

Luke Chambers injury confirmed

As usual, Liverpool have a fair number of players out on-loan this season. With most of them having left on deadline day, though, they haven’t yet really got going.

Calum Scanlon has earned some praise from Millwall manager Neil Harris, but has now gone down with an injury problem of his own and has been forced to return to Liverpool for treatment.

So, up until now, perhaps the best performing of those temporarily away from Liverpool has been left-back Luke Chambers.

Chambers turned down interest from the Championship in order to return to League One Wigan, for whom he excelled with during the second half of last season.

The left-back scored a brilliant, Fabio Aurelio-esque near post free-kick against Bristol Rovers recently and has started all of Wigan’s seven League One matches so far.

However, according to manager Shaun Maloney, Chambers had an issue during Tuesday night’s game against Stevenage and had to come off at half-time.

“Unfortunately it was a muscle tightness and Luke couldn't carry on,” Maloney said via wiganathletic.com.

“It's early and we'll know later the week but he's doubtful for the weekend.”

What about Calvin Ramsay?

Of course, Chambers is not the only Liverpool academy player on-loan at Wigan this season. The Latics also recruited right-back Calvin Ramsay to play on the opposite side to his Reds teammate.

Ramsay has had a torrid time with injury himself over the past two seasons, playing just eight games across two years with Liverpool, Bolton and Preston.

Thankfully, the 21-year-old’s body has held up fine so far at Wigan. However, he has not been able to break into the team.

Ramsay has made five appearances for Maloney’s team, with his only start being in the Carabao Cup penalty loss against Barnsley.

Intriguingly, the Scotland international is being kept out of the side by another player with a Liverpool connection: legendary centre-back Jamie Carragher’s son James Carragher.
