Liverpool usually keep their cards close to their chest in the transfer market, making them a tough nut to crack.

No one heard a peep about Federico Chiesa before the deal was at an advanced stage for the Italy international to move to Anfield, although the Giorgi Mamardashvili saga was widely covered due to drawn-out negotiations.

Nevertheless, it’s always hard to predict who Liverpool will go after in the transfer market as they have their own way of going about things.

But one look at Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo will tell you that he is a Michael Edwards player if there ever was one.

Brentford have steadily risen through the ranks under Thomas Frank and have become a household name in the Premier League.

While Ivan Toney stole all the headlines during his stint with the club, Mbeumo is the name on their fans’ lips currently, with the Cameroonian continuing to develop into one of the most reliable attackers in England.

Frank confirmed that Mbeumo won’t be sold in January amid interest from Liverpool, but there will come a time when the talented attacker will move on to greener pastures.

The 25-year-old showed his class against Arsenal with a fantastic display as he broke the deadlock early in the game by beating David Raya in the near post.

After receiving the ball, Mbeumo cut into his left foot and as Riccardo Calafiori down before slotting the ball into the back of the net past the despairing dive of Raya.

He is one of the most underrated attackers in the Premier League and it remains to be seen if Liverpool – or any of the other big boys – make a move for him in the future.

Mbeumo’s stats this season

Alan Shearer described Mbeumo as an ‘unstoppable’ player and his stats certainly make for interesting reading.

Mbeumo scored nine Premier League goals last season and has already matched his tally with half a season to go, which is the biggest sign that he is on an upward trajectory.

Liverpool usually sniff out such signings from a distance under Edwards, so don’t be surprised if they make a move to sign him at some point in the future.
