The Liverpool boss spoke to the media on Friday ahead of the Brentford clash with Slot stating that Diogo Jota is a concern to face the Bees.
Among the several other topics that arose during his appearance with the press, journalists were keen to unlock any hints regarding new signings at Anfield ahead of the January transfer window closing.
Slot’s words may worry some Liverpool fans as there are weaknesses in the Merseyside club’s team that need addressing.
Arne Slot is ‘very happy’ with his Liverpool squad
After making a very strong start to the 2024/25 campaign, some weaknesses have started to appear at Liverpool, especially within the Reds’ backline.
Jamie Carragher wants Liverpool to sign a left-sided defender this month, while fans of the Premier League leaders would like to see the contract situations of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk sorted.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Slot hinted that no new arrivals will arrive at Anfield this month, with the summer window being the opportunity for Liverpool to do their business.
“We know how good we have to be every single day to compete in this league. It’s not just the club you’re referring to, Chelsea spent £1.2bn, and United spent an incredible amount, Slot said via Ian Doyle after being told about Haaland’s new contract. “Some seasons this club spends more, sometimes it’s another.
“We are very happy with the team we have at the moment and are still able to compete with teams who are spending an incredible amount of money.”
The feeling around Merseyside is that Liverpool are confident that Salah and Van Dijk will sign new contracts but when it comes to new arrivals, it remains to be seen who could end up at Anfield in 2025.
Liverpool linked with several targets ahead of summer transfer window
The biggest concern within the current Liverpool squad is the left side of their defence as Andy Robertson encountered many problems this season, in addition to Kostas Tsimikas struggling with fitness issues.
Milos Kerkez has been linked to Liverpool should they decide to address this position in 2025 as the Bournemouth star has impressed in the Premier League throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
In addition to the Hungarian defender, Fulham’s Antonee Robinson is a player Liverpool like, with the Reds reportedly following his recent progress ahead of the summer window; although the Merseyside club would prefer to bring in a younger star than the 27-year-old.
Away from left-back, Aurelien Tchouameni could be an option for Liverpool this summer as there are still concerns related to the number six position.
January signings may be unlikely for Liverpool, however, there is still a lot to look forward to for Reds fans when it comes to the summer.
