As the 2025 summer transfer window gets closer, Mohamed Salah looks more likely to leave Liverpool with each passing week.
The Egyptian superstar is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and if a new deal cannot be agreed, it would bring an end to an incredible eight-year spell on Merseyside.
Salah has become one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players with the 232 goals scored by the winger putting him fourth on the Reds’ all-time goalscoring chart.
# | Player | Goals | Games |
1 | Ian Rush | 346 | 660 |
2 | Roger Hunt | 285 | 492 |
3 | Gordon Hodgson | 241 | 377 |
4 | Mohamed Salah | 232 | 378 |
5 | Billy Liddell | 288 | 534 |
Liverpool hope that they can agree a new deal with Salah over the coming weeks and some positive noises are emerging from Anfield related to the Egypt captain’s future.
The Saudi Pro League have held a long-term interest in Salah and the Middle-Eastern nation are becoming more confident of landing their top target this summer.
Al-Hilal manager Jorge Jesus has been speaking to the press about his club’s interest in the Liverpool star and the Portuguese coach has dropped a worrying bombshell.
Mohamed Salah could play for Al-Hilal ‘next season’ admits Jorge Jesus
Salah has been linked to Al-Hilal this week with the Saudi club looking to move on from Neymar as the Brazilian superstar has been plagued with injury issues since moving to the Saudi Pro League.
Speaking to the press this week, Jesus told the media that Hilal are in the market for a new winger and opened the door for Salah to move to the Riyadh-based club ‘next season’.
"Mo Salah or other big players will not come this winter… but maybe next season,” the Portuguese coach told reporters via The Standard when asked about his side’s January transfer plans.
The departure of Neymar would free up funds for the Saudi club to acquire the services of Salah this summer and with the Egyptian being a free agent, the transfer is even more attractive for interested clubs.
Jesus’ words indicate that Al-Hilal are serious about signing the winger and that will be a worry for Liverpool fans as it will be a very tough task to replace the 32-year-old star.
Liverpool have Mohamed Salah replacements in mind
Liverpool are unlikely to bring in a superstar to replace Salah should he leave this summer with the Reds more likely to go down the path of bringing in a proven young talent with potential to grow further.
Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon was a top target for Liverpool last summer with the Reds believed to have been seriously interested in recruiting the Magpies winger.
The 23-year-old has gone up another level since moving to St James’ Park in 2023 and surrounded by better players at Liverpool, the Englishman could take the next step again.
Bryan Mbeumo is another summer target for Liverpool as the Brentford star continues to experience his best season in the Premier League.
Player Name | Games | Goals | Assists |
Bryan Mbeumo | 21 | 13 | 3 |
Mohamed Salah | 20 | 18 | 13 |
Anthony Gordon | 20 | 6 | 4 |
Everyone associated with Liverpool hopes that the Merseyside club can agree a new contract with Salah as a huge unknown will be created for Arne Slot heading into the 2025/26 campaign without their superstar goalscorer.
