Liverpool continued their strong start to the Premier League season as they edged past Crystal Palace 1-0.

Selhurst Park hosted the clash between the Eagles and Liverpool, with Diogo Jota scoring the only goal of the game.

He fired home from close range in the ninth minute, expertly latching on to a Cody Gakpo cross after a 'brilliant' Kostas Tsimikas pass.

Arne Slot has now guided the Reds to six wins from seven Premier League matches, leaving them a point clear at the top of the table.

Both Manchester City and Arsenal are their nearest competitors following their wins over Fulham and Southampton respectively.

Jota took to Instagram to celebrate his goal and the three points, writing: "Let’s go," with Van Dijk commenting with the raised hands emoji and Diaz commenting with three clapping hands emojis.

Diogo Jota steps up for Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Joe Cole loved Jota's movement for Liverpool, with the Reds attacker constantly giving the Crystal Palace defence something to deal with.

He hasn't been as free-scoring as the likes of Diaz or Mohamed Salah in the early stages of the season, but the Portugal star does still boast four goals.

Two of those have come in the Premier League, with his other two coming in the League Cup win over West Ham.

Jota, who joined the Reds for £45million in 2020, has also chipped in with two assists this season, and is proving to be a crucial player in the final third under Slot.

The versatile attacker does, however, need to accept that his minutes will be managed this season, given both the busy schedule and the long list of talented attackers at Anfield.

But he certainly took his chance against Crystal Palace, proving just how deadly of a finisher he really is with his expert finish.
