Two moments of pure class saw Liverpool ease past Bologna in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

The Reds weren’t always at their fluent best against the Italian side, but picked them off with a goal in either half.

The first came via a debut Champions League goal – and a first strike of the season – for Alexis Mac Allister.

Mac Allister has been excellent for Liverpool so far this campaign, following on from what was a really impressive debut year at Anfield.

Surprisingly, the 25-year-old had never played in the Champions League before this season. But he predictably looks right at home amongst the continent’s elite.

And after getting his goal to put Liverpool into the lead, Mac Allister praised one of his slightly more storied teammates.

Alexis Mac Allister hails Mohamed Salah assist

In truth, Mac Allister could hardly have missed the chance to put Liverpool 1-0 up on Wednesday.

Having stated the game brightly, the Reds worked the ball brilliantly out wide to Mohamed Salah, who floated in an inch perfect cross for Liverpool’s No.10.

It was a gift for Mac Allister, who duly poked it beyond goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski from just a yard or two out.

Peter Crouch praised the ‘magnificent’ pass from Salah and it was a moment of sheer brilliance from the Egyptian King.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Mac Allister recognised as much, too. Asked whether it had been harder to miss than score, the Argentine gave a nod to Salah’s vision on the pitch.

“To be fair it’s quite hard [to miss] but you could, you never know!” Mac Allister smiled. “But a goal is a goal and I’m very happy.

“In this team we know that when we make a run Mo can see everything. I’m really happy for him as well because he scored a goal, so it was a good night for everyone.”

Salah shows he’s more than just goals

At times Salah can be unfairly pigeonholed as simply a scorer of goals for Liverpool.

As the 32-year-old showed once again on Wednesday, he can certainly get goals. That has never been a problem.

But in focusing on how many times Salah puts the ball in the net, some can often undervalue just what a creative spark Mo is, too.

As Mac Allister says, he really can ‘see everything’ out on the pitch. Sometimes he’s passes aren’t executed quite right, but Salah’s vision is so important to Liverpool.

Against Bologna, he showcased both of these facets of his game to perfection. Mac Allister certainly knows a thing or two about vision on a football pitch, but even he has to defer to the Egyptian King on this one.
