Liverpool have a new injury problem after a testing game against Wolves at the weekend.

The Reds battled through a sloppy performance at Molineux to take all three points back to Merseyside and move to the top of the Premier League.

But although they snuck out of the West Midlands with a win, it turns out that it was not without cost for Liverpool.

After the game Arne Slot admitted that Andy Robertson had picked up a knock, but the left-back was not the only one to be hurt.

Unfortunately, Diogo Jota also took a bang against his old team and has been forced to miss training on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Bologna.

With Darwin Nunez recently struggling with illness, too, Sky Sports journalists Vinny O’Connor has given an update on whether either will be fit to start for the Reds against Bologna.

Diogo Jota scan comes back all clear

Liverpool supporters will now be anxiously waiting to hear from Slot ahead of Wednesday’s game.

According to the Liverpool ECHO, Federico Chiesa was another missing from training on Tuesday in what is a real blow to his chances of more game time.

With Jota and Nunez potentially out too, Slot’s forward options are suddenly looking a little light.

However, giving an update pitch side at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday, O’Connor claimed that there is still a chance that Jota can play, while Nunez was also back fit.

“One bit of good news is that Darwin Nunez is back in training, he obviously missed the game against Wolves through illness,” began the reporter.

“But one player you won’t see out there at the moment is Diogo Jota because he picked up a bit of a foot injury.

“What we’re told is that he’s had a scan that it’s come back clear but he’s just not training today,” O’Connor added.

“There’s still a possibility that he could be involved against Bologna but I think perhaps the likelihood is that Darwin Nunez will get the opportunity to start.”

What about Andy Robertson?

Although this is obviously disappointing news, it sounds as though Jota is fine and was only not in training as a precaution.

Nevertheless, with another game coming so quickly on Saturday, it does perhaps mean that Jota will miss both of Liverpool’s next two matches.

Meanwhile, O’Connor thankfully reported that after Slot’s comments on Saturday, Robertson was out training normally on Tuesday.

“Andy Robertson is out there training,” confirmed the Sky journalist. “There was a little bit of concern after that Wolves game that he might have picked up a knock.”

Good news on that front, then, but let’s wait and see what Slot has to say about Jota.
