Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move from Liverpool to Real Madrid is getting closer.

The news broke on Tuesday that Real Madrid will look to close a deal for Alexander-Arnold soon as the La Liga champions look to bring the full-back to Spain on a free transfer with the 26-year-old’s contract at Anfield expiring at the end of the season.

Real Madrid have been pursuing Alexander-Arnold for some time as the England international is one of the best full-backs of his generation and fits perfectly into the image the Spanish giants like to portray.

There has arguably been no better full-back going forward than the Liverpool star in the history of football, but questions have been asked about his defensive capabilities.

One ESPN pundit has taken this into account and has warned Alexander-Arnold about one Real Madrid player who could cause him problems at the Bernabeu.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold warned about Dani Carvajal

Dani Carvajal has been at Real Madrid since 2013 and is one of the best full-backs seen in the modern era, with the Spanish star winning every trophy possible at club level, in addition to the 2024 Euros and the UEFA Nations League with Spain.

The 33-year-old was even a contender for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, finishing fourth in the overall standings, which shows how highly the world of football rates the Real Madrid legend.

Given his age and the current ACL injury that he is recovering from, Alexander-Arnold is seen as the defender’s successor. However, ESPN pundit Craig Burley has warned the Liverpool star that he might not have it all his own way next season with the veteran around.

“At this moment in time, they (Real Madrid) haven’t got solidity in that back line,” Burley stated on ESPN FC. “They’ve got Carvajal, who, by the way, when he (Alexander-Arnold) makes this move, and this is one of the risks to it, and we’re going to look at some bad defending in a little bit.

“If this is the kind of stuff we’re going to see at Real Madrid, don’t forget Dani Carvajal. He can get forward, not to the extent of Alexander-Arnold, but I would say it’s much more of a balanced product because he’s good going forward and he is very good defensively.”

“What happens when Dani Carvajal is back, and let’s say he’s back to full fitness? He’s one of the best full-backs of the modern era. So there’s a lot of pressure on Alexander-Arnold going to Real Madrid.

“Unless Carvajal does not return as the same player, I know he is in his 30s, it’s not as simple as he can just swing in there and be very lax about his defending.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold deserves his Real Madrid move

Many Liverpool fans will not be happy with Alexander-Arnold for leaving the Merseyside club, but the 26-year-old deserves his move to Real Madrid this summer, which many view as the biggest club in the world.

The 26-year-old has given everything to the Premier League leaders over the last nine years, while also winning every trophy possible and he has even captained his boyhood club on occasions. Therefore, there is not much more the defender can achieve at Liverpool.

Real Madrid is an exciting chapter for Alexander-Arnold to open, and it provides him with the platform to become the first full-back to ever win the Ballon d’Or.

It may hurt now, but should the defender go on to achieve this, Liverpool fans will be more than happy for their academy graduate.
