Liverpool are set to be active in the transfer market in 2025 after Arne Slot oversaw a quiet summer window immediately after joining the club.

After Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Anfield, Federico Chiesa was the only player who walked through the club in the summer, although a deal was agreed to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in 2025.

The upcoming windows, however, could be important for Liverpool as the Dutchman looks to fine-tune his squad.

And one of the Reds’ transfer targets has just received a ringing endorsement from Jose Mourinho.

Mohamed Salah has been offered a new contract by Liverpool but he hasn’t put pen to paper on an extension, raising doubts about his future at Anfield.

The Reds have been linked with a host of attacking players to prepare for his potential departure and replacing him would be a huge problem as his output has been fantastic over the years.

Graeme Bailey exclusively revealed to Rousing the Kop that Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams is wanted by Liverpool, with Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also linked with a transfer.

Williams has a release clause of £48m and has also been linked with Arsenal and Barcelona as he continues to produce the goods for club and country.

Mourinho feels the Spanish international is a wonderful player as he went on to admit that he prefers him over Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, who has endured an astronomical rise to the top since the start of last season.

“People are with Yamal, Yamal and Yamal, who is a great player, but personally I am more of a Nico Williams fan than anything else,” said Mourinho to Spanish newspaper COPE. “And I hope he ends up in white [of Real Madrid].”

Williams’ stats this season

The explosive winger played a starring role in Spain’s triumphant Euro 2024 campaign as he scored two goals and also earned a mention in the Team of the Year.

However, he hasn’t really set the world alight for his club this season, as seen below from his stats.

Nevertheless, Williams is wanted by a handful of top clubs across the continent and it remains to be seen if Liverpool position themselves for his signature if he decides to leave.
