Time To Catch Up With Our Boys in Germany

It's been a mixed bag for Manchester City stars in Germany since our last update. With the group stage over, it's down to a straight knock-out and penalties, so you know exactly what's going to happen to England!

Let's take a look and see what's been happening to our boys in blue.

England

The Three Lions topped the group but could only manage a drab goalless draw against Slovenia. Phil Foden once again starred but was played out of position, and John Stones and Kyle Walker also started. Foden soon left the England camp to return to the UK for the birth of his third child.

England will now play Slovakia in the next round, and victory will see them face Italy or Switzerland in the quarter-final. However, it will need to be an improved performance if they are to reach the last eight.

Switzerland

Manuel Akanji's Swiss side booked their place in the next round after a 1-1 draw with hosts Germany. The Swiss took the lead in the 28th minute and looked like they were about to win the group until an equaliser deep into injury time sent the Germans top.

Akanji and his teammates will now face Italy in the next round, with a possible clash against England the incentive.

Spain

Rodri and his Spanish teammates made it three wins from three as they comfortably topped Group B. Former City star Ferran Torres scored the only goal as Spain overcame Albania 1-0.

Spain will now face surprise package Georgia in the next round, with a potential tie against Germany or Denmark in the last eight.

Croatia

While it was joy for Rodri, it was despair for Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic as Croatia crashed out of the competition. The Croats were on course for the next round after Luka Modric had fired them ahead in the second half against Italy. But a goal in the 8th minute of stoppage time denied Croatia and send Italy through to face Switzerland.

Netherlands

It was a close call for Nathan Ake and the Netherlands. After beating Poland in the opening match, the Netherlands could only manage a goalless draw with France, but went into their final group match against Austria with confidence. However, they had to come from behind twice, only for Austria to score a third goal with ten minutes to go. Luckily for Ake and his Dutch side, they finished second and scraped through to face Romania in the knock-out stage.

Belgium

It was also a close call for Kevin de Bruyne and Jeremy Doku as their Belgian side edged out of Group E. After losing to Slovakia in the opening game, de Bruyne scored Belgium's second goal in their 2-0 win over Romania, and a nervy goalless draw with Ukraine was enough to see the Red Devils finish second in the group.

Belgium's reward for finishing second is a tough match against France on Monday.

Portugal

Group favourites Portugal secured their place in the knockout stages but suffered a shock defeat in their final group match. Bernardo Silva scored the opening goal as Portugal beat Turkey 3-0 to progress. However, in their final match, Georgia pulled off a surprise 2-0 win to finish second in the group.

Silva, along with Ruben Dias, Matheus Nunes and former blue Joao Cancelo will now face Slovenia in their next match.
