Manchester United splashed around £200m to strengthen the squad last summer.
Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui joined from Bayern Munich to reinforce the defense, while Leny Yoro was their most expensive acquisition in the last transfer window.
News – Man Utd now want to sign Olympic champion with £82million clause – Report
Manuel Ugarte was hired from Paris Saint-Germain and Joshua Zirkzee signed from Bologna in a £35.8m deal. Unfortunately, the Red Devils have endured a woeful campaign thus far this season, sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Among all of those new acquisitions, Zirkzee has been linked with a move away in recent times following an underwhelming start at Old Trafford.
Moreover, speculation surrounding his future has been fueled after being taken off before the interval vs Newcastle last week.
Now, Caught Offside claim that Zirkzee has asked his representatives to engineer a move away from Man Utd and his preference is to return to Serie A – where Juventus and AC Milan are interested in signing him.
The Dutchman has taken this step following the humiliation against the Magpies with the Red Devils open to letting him leave this month in a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent.
The Bianconeri can’t afford to hire him unless they part ways with Dusan Vlahovic – who hasn’t extended his deal despite entering the final 18 months.
Zirkzee has netted only four times in 28 games in all competitions and these numbers don’t justify the price paid for him by United.
He only featured four minutes vs Liverpool yesterday and is the second-fiddle option to Rasmus Hojlund at the moment.
The Dutchman appears to be a quiet character and these types of players can take a bit of time to settle down in a new environment. He did the same after joining Bologna before enjoying a promising campaign last term.
In your view, should Man Utd give the 23-year-old more time or should he be sold to lure a proven goal-scorer?
