Blow for Man Utd as £80million transfer bid ready to be hijacked – Report

It is no coincidence that Manchester United are continually being linked with potential striker signings this winter transfer window as that has been the one position that has really hurt the Red Devils so far this season, along with maybe left wing-back.
Ruben Amorim's system is very dependent on the striker being clinical in front of goal and Joshua Zirkzee has struggled to make that happen even to a decent extent.

Rasmus Hojlund on the other hand has potential but is far too inconsistent to be the starting striker for a club of Man Utd's stature at this stage of his career.
One player that Ruben Amorim would love to have in the Manchester United squad is, one would assume, Sporting CP star man Viktor Gyokeres who seemingly cannot stop scoring over the past 12 months. It was the Portuguese tactician who made the Swede the player that he is today.
However, as per today's edition of The Daily Express (press image at the end), Man Utd’s pursuit of the Liga NOS striker is in danger, with Bayern Munich willing to hijack the deal and take Viktor Gyokeres to Germany to continue his career.
It is understood that the German club have started talks with the player's entourage. Gyokeres is said to have a £80million release clause in his contract and Bayern Munich have expressed their desire to pay the amount to secure the Swede's services.
What makes absolutely no sense about this transfer rumour is why Bayern Munich would want Viktor Gyokeres when they already have one of the best strikers in the game in Harry Kane and a valuable backup to him in the talented Mathys Tel.
The report adds that Gyokeres would prefer to join a club that is playing in the Champions League next season, which puts Man Utd in a spot of bother.
However, the Red Devils will be hoping that Ruben Amorim can tug on the player's heartstrings to convince him to come to Old Trafford.
