Dan Ashworth breaks silence on real reason behind Jadon Sancho's exit from Old Trafford

Manchester United’s summer business brought about some notable outgoings this year, which included Jadon Sancho ending his disappointing spell at the club.
His public falling out with Erik ten Hag last season was the final straw of a turbulent stay in Manchester and Chelsea have agreed a deal to take the player to Stamford Bridge.
Sancho didn’t feature in a competitive game for United after the disagreement with Ten Hag and, despite featuring in pre-season, has now left the club.
United’s new Sporting Director Dan Ashworth has spoken on the sale of a player who signed for a fee north of £70 million just three years ago.
In a recent interview, Ashworth claims that it was Sancho who pushed for the move and the quality of player at the club meant United were happy to allow a deal to be struck.
“It was a decision that we made — if it's right for Jadon and it's right for us to move on. He wanted to explore the opportunity at Chelsea.
We felt we had enough depth in that particular position to be able to cover it. We've got four really good wide players; Jadon was a fifth, and it just enabled us to make that decision that if it was good for him and good for us it was something we were willing to consider,” he said.
Ashworth dismissed the notion there was no future for the forward at United saying the departure was “nothing to do with that”.
Furthermore, Ashworth added that the other noteworthy first-team sales including Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Scott McTominay came after the players expressed interest in leaving Old Trafford.
“We're not in a position where we're kicking players out of the club. I think with any player, whether it's Jadon (Sancho), whether it's Scott (McTominay) or whether it's Aaron (Wan Bissaka), if there's a preference that they would like to move and go to a new club and it's right for them and it's right for us, then you have to explore it,” he said.
With the summer market now closed, United will be focusing on turning around another slow start to the season which included an awful turnout against old rivals Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
United are back in action on September 14 after the conclusion of the international break with a trip to Southampton.
