Manchester United or a club struggling in transition with the squad currently having a lot of issues. Ruben Amorim is trying to do the impossible and return the prestigious English club back to their glory days.
Amorim has come to Manchester with a clear idea on how he wants his team to play and has been trying to get the players to adapt to his tactical system.
News –Report – £59million star agrees £12.6million worth deal to leave Man United
However, the Portuguese tactician cannot do it without making signings in the market.
As per Football Insider, Man Utd are confident of agreeing a deal to sign PSG left back Nuno Mendes despite interest from the likes of Manchester City.
Valued at £55million, the Portuguese left back could solve United's woes in the LWB position inAmorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.
One of the most talented young left backs in football today, there is no shortage of interest in the PSG star but Amorim would be hoping to convince his countryman to join him in an ambitious project at Old Trafford.
Our view
The left back position has been a concern for Manchester United for quite some time now.
Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have had their own share of fitness issues, and don't look to be reliable options going forward.
Diogo Dalot has been forced to deputize on the opposite flank for the better part of the last couple of seasons, and although he does play well in that position, United would be better off having a natural left-footed player there.
Thus, signing Nuno Mendes makes a lot of sense on paper for Man Utd. Amorim knows the player and his qualities well from their time at Sporting CP and therefore, he would not take much time to settle in the system at Old Trafford.
FI claim that United are favorites but it will be intriguing to see if they can meet the high asking fee and convince the player to leave Champions League football for the Europa League.
