Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United drama – Manchester airport post from agent
Today at 09:32 AM
Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United has been a fast moving rumour to brighten up a Monday in deepest-darkest January.
Monday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport had the scoop. They reported Manchester United were set to have a meeting to try and agree a deal for the Lecce player. The Premier League club were presented as pushing for a deal, with Ruben Amorim presumably of the belief he can use the 20-year-old as wing-back.
Gazzetta dello Sport then quickly got in on the action, reporting Manchester United had already offered Lecce €30m, only to see that bid knocked back. However, Gazzetta stated an offer consisting of €35m plus bonuses should do the trick. There was a lot of confidence and even the claim of potential White Smoke* in the coming hours.
Solo Lecce now have a report which is frankly funny. They’re seemingly annoyed at Dorgu’s agent Kingsley Ogbodo. Before we carry on, it’s worth noting we checked Ogbodo’s record out and he’s repeatedly been quoted in Italy speaking as Dorgu’s agent, so everything fits in that respect.
Anyway, this morning, before all the Dorgu to Manchester United drama started, Ogbodo took to Instagram to post an image of an airport, with the location pin set as… Manchester Airport.
Whether he was there or on his way there isn’t 100% clear, but he captioned the post: ‘Please remember (sic) me what of the year we are in?’
Now, we don’t think Ogbodo is a huge fan of January generally, so it’s likely he’s referring to the transfer window.
*When the Italian media sport media use the term ‘White Smoke’ in a transfer story they mean a signal of agreement. The saying comes from the election process for new Popes. When the College of Cardinals makes their final decision, white smoke billows from a chimney atop the Sistine Chapel.
