Newcastle will visit Birmingham in FA Cup's 4th Round

The Magpies will fly down south.

Newcastle United has been drawn to face League One leaders Birmingham City on the road in the FA Cup 4th round.

The match is scheduled for the weekend commencing February 8, and it will pitch both teams against each other for the fourth time in the competition, the prior three requiring a replay.

The first encounter came in the 1905/06 (yes, no typo) quarter-finals, with Newcastle triumphing 3–0 in a replay on Tyneside after a 2–2 draw at St. Andrew's.

Birmingham turned the tables in 2006/07, already more than 100 years (!!!) later, progressing after a 5–1 replay victory at St. James' Park following a 2–2 draw.

Most recently, in 2016/17, Newcastle advanced with a 3–1 replay win at home after a 1–1 stalemate at St. Andrew's.

The Magpies will look to avoid extra time this time around, as new FA Cup rules ensure that ties will be decided on the day via extra time and penalties if required, with no replays played anymore brining an end to a nonsensical way of deciding a winner for the love of God.
