With Anthony Gordon secured, the Magpies are already working on locking Isak under contract.

Newcastle United are preparing to enter discussions with striker Alexander Isak over a new contract extension, according to Mark Douglas of I.

Despite the Swedish international still having four years left on his current deal, the Magpies are seemingly willing to pony up, increase his wage, and lock Isak for the long term following the extension of fellow young superstar forward Anthony Gordon.

The talks between both parties come, Douglas wrote, as part of the club's strategy to secure the futures of all of their current key players to prevent other top-tier clubs from snatching them from Tyneside.

Isak, who joined from Real Sociedad in 2022, has been a standout performer for Newcastle and even better than advertised. He already scored 21 Premier League goals last season and he's under contract through June 2028, but the club is keen to reflect his rising value and his importance to the organization by inking him into a true monster deal.

The 24-year-old is already among Newcastle's top earners, mind you, but following his breakout year last season and his ever-improving play, his valuation on the open market has sky-rocketed past the £100-million barrier.

According to Douglas, Isak's performance at NUFC has already attracted interest from Arsenal and Chelsea among others, though Isak has always said he's cool at Newcastle and wants to keep playing at St James' Park.

Gordon followed the steps of Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton in signing a hefty extension yet to be announced, and it looks like Isak will come right after AG.

While securing Isak is a priority, Newcastle also faces decisions on other senior players, Douglas points out, including Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, and Callum Wilson, all of whom are entering the final year of their contracts. Club captain Jamaal Lascelles and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka are also nearing the end of their deals.

That said, it's fair to expect more than one or two of those vets to depart come next summer and, optimally, next January by way of a sale that fills the coffers of Newcastle to a certain extent instead of leaving for nothing in July.
