David Moyes had a contract offer withdrawn by West Ham last season, he has revealed.
The former Hammers boss left the club in the summer following his second spell in charge.
During four-and-a-half years as manager, Moyes won the club’s first trophy for 43 years.
Alongside the Conference League triumph in 2023, he also achieved three top half finishes and three European qualifications.
However, the club decided against extended the 61-year-old’s deal beyond the end of last term.
Moyes has now revealed, though, that he was initially offered a new contract before chairman David Sullivan withdrew the proposal.
Appearing on the Stick To Football podcast, the Scot explained: “We [West Ham] beat Arsenal on December 28, we beat them at The Emirates, and that day they offered me a new contract.
“Then we lost three games in a row. I hadn't signed the contract because, I'll be honest, I wasn't sure if I should stay. I wasn't quite sure.
“The contract wasn't a great contract, but the biggest part of it was he (David Sullivan) withdrew the contract. He said 'well I'm taking the contract away'.
“So he withdrew the contract, just on the back of the results. And we said 'look, let's wait and we'll make a decision at the end of the season.'”
West Ham went on to finish ninth last season as well as reaching the quarter-finals of both the Carabao Cup and Europa League.
Following Moyes’ departure, former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui was appointed as his replacement in the summer.
Hammers chairman David Sullivan opted against extending Moyes’ deal[/caption]The Spaniard has already come under fire, though, after an indifferent start to the campaign.
West Ham are currently 14th with just 11 points from their opening 10 Premier League matches.
However, they do find themselves six points clear of the relegation zone ahead of this weekend’s clash with Everton.
Meanwhile, Moyes has yet to make a return to the dugout in the four months since his Hammers exit.
He revealed last month, though, that he had been approached by both club and national teams already this season.
