Philippe Clement is adamant that he is still the right man for Rangers as he looks to secure progress in the Europa League.

The manager still has a few issues in his squad in terms of injury and availability, however, there is little sympathy for him given the quality of football on show.

Clement won't change formation, but he has at least been brave enough Cyriel Dessers, a suggestion that the Rangers boss is determined to hold onto his job.

Philippe Clement buys time by dropping Cyriel Dessers from Rangers starting XI

Lack of options in certain areas has seen players like Nedim Bajrami not played in their best positions and it has been the same for Dessers for almost the entirety of Clement’s tenure as manager.

Danilo has been hugely unlucky with injury and Hamza Igamane has had to get up to full speed and then adapt to joining such a big club.

There have been flashes of what the young striker is capable of but now he has a chance to stake a claim for a regular starting role.

Given Rangers form, Clement has moved on from those who haven’t been performing and is giving a chance to those who have shown a positive attitude in recent displays.

Clement pleads patience with reinforcements on their way

Speaking as part of the pre-match build up, Clement revealed in Rangers press conference that reinforcements aren't far away in terms of attacking options.

"In that way positive also. We spoke about that last season, we had big periods with 12 players out. Long players like that.

"So Oscar (Cortes) did his first part of the training today, so he will need still a few more weeks to be ready to play games but it's a positive thing.

"Tom Lawrence is also close. It's in the next couple of weeks he will be back, Rabbi Matondo the same. And we want to keep it that way."

In over a year in charge, Clement has never been able to pick Rangers strongest XI.

This would affect any team, however, the confidence in the Gers boss to see what everyone else sees has been a problem.

Maybe he has finally realised that doing the same thing over, and over again, and expecting a different result, isn’t a feasible strategy.
