Rangers manager Philippe Clement has been tipped to return to Belgium as the pressure rises at Ibrox.

The ex-Genk, Club Brugge and AS Monaco boss is a year into the job at Rangers and has had a mixed 12 months in charge of the stuttering Ibrox club.

Whilst Philippe Clement has delivered a League Cup trophy, the Belgian manager is without an Old Firm win in five attempts and the jury is still out on whether he is the man to deliver the consistent success frustrated supporters so crave.

But having been linked with the vacant job at Anderlecht back in September, it appears the Pro League side have set their sights elsewhere after Clement committed himself to the job at Rangers.

Anderlecht 'in talks' with new manager

Philippe Clement had been tipped to takeover at Anderlecht by reports in Belgium after the five-time European trophy winners sacked Brian Riemer.

Specifically, Clement had been mentioned as a potential option by ex-Anderlecht star Nordin Jbari alongside the likes of Mark van Bommel.

"The future coach must have charisma and play well," said Jbari. "Philippe Clement, even if he is taken (is a good example).

"He likes to play forward and is modern. He would be interesting, even if he has been to Brugge."

But it's neither the current Rangers manager or legendary ex-Dutch midfielder Van Bommel who looks set to take the reins at Belgian football's most successful club.

That's because the Athletic are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur assistant Ryan Mason is in 'talks' with Anderlecht to become the Pro League side's new manager.

The 33-year-old is a promising young coach who been working at Spurs ever since having to take early retirement from playing due to injury in 2018.

Having twice taken interim charge of Tottenham, following the departures of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, Mason could be about to land his first top job in football.

Philippe Clement committed to Rangers

It will come as no surprise to Rangers fans that Anderlecht have opted to move elsewhere amid links to Philippe Clement.

Not least because the Belgian manager irrefutably knocked back any suggestion that he could leave Ibrox.

The 50-year-old Rangers boss was asked about the links to Anderlecht last month and was pretty clear that not even the likes of Real Madrid could pry him away from Ibrox.

Clement was handed a one-year contract extension on the eve of the new season in a public showing of solidarity amid a tumultuous summer and ongoing rebuild.

"It's really clear I engaged myself long-term for Rangers last month," Clement said.

"Whoever comes, whatever team comes, I'm not going to go away.

"Really clear. I want this project with the club to make it really successful for the future.

"We all know we need time for that, we need a few transfer windows for that, we need a lot of work to do for that.

"And that's what I want to do because I love the city, I love the club, I love the dynamic at Ibrox with the fans, so I am here to stay, very clear."
