Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo hasn't been able to catch an injury break at Ibrox.

In fact, injury issues have plagued the 24-year-old Welsh attacker's Ibrox career with Rangers' decision to hold on to Rabbi Matondo this summer immediately coming back to bite.

Amid interest from the English Championship, Rangers held on to Rabbi only for the winger to suffer a serious injury in the Old Firm humbling at Celtic Park.

With a return date still unclear, the Rangers star himself has now dropped a huge clue that he could be back on the training pitch much quicker than originally anticipated.

Rabbi Matondo shares Instagram injury update

Rabbi Matondo is one of a number of Rangers players who are currently sidelined with injury.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement gave an injury update on the state of the squad following the 2-0 win over St Johnstone and confirmed that two players are close to a training ground return.

But whilst Ridvan Yilmaz and Danilo are expected back on the Auchenhowie pitch in the coming fortnight, Oscar Cortes and Rabbi Matondo are not.

Colombian winger Cortes has been branded a 'longer term' issue whilst the timescales attached to Matondo were 'six to eight weeks' back at the start of September.

It means Matondo is in line for a return to the Rangers fold at the end of October but the winger has dropped a hint on Instagram that he is set to get on the pitch 'soon'.

As reported by Four Lads Had a Dream, Matondo shared an image of himself with a ball at Auchenhowie and the caption 'SOON' on the 7th of October.

Rangers left short on the wing

Rangers needs Rabbi Matondo back on the pitch as quickly as possible.

The club's lack of wide options has been intensified by Matondo's absence, with Oscar Cortes's latest injury also giving Philippe Clement cause for concern.

Rangers held on to Matondo whilst a deal to bring Southampton winger Samuel Edozie to Ibrox collapsed in the final moments of the window.

Whilst Nedim Bajrami can play in the position, Rangers are short out wide and the club are expected to bring in stronger options come the January window.

The situation was exemplified by the fact that Rangers finished with Dujon Sterling on the left and James Tavernier on the right in the 2-0 win over St Johnstone.
