Former Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been subject to criticism from Besiktas supporters for his side's recent performances.

The legendary former Feyenoord, Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona star, 49, has been in charge of the Turkish Super Lig since the summer.

But after an initially bright start to life in Istanbul, Giovanni van Bronckhorst was the subject of loud jeers and chants from Besiktas fans following the club's latest poor result.

The complaints will also strike a chord with Rangers fans, who were left frustrated with the Dutchman's lethargic domestic style during an eleven month stint in charge in Glasgow.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst subject to Besiktas chant

Giovanni van Bronckhorst finds himself under mounting pressure after Besiktas fell ten points behind leaders Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig table.

The Dutch manager is on a run of three league games without a win with the 0-0 draw against Istanbul Basaksahir coming after back-to-back defeats to Kasimpasa and Galatasaray.

According to local outlet Sabah, the result and performance saw travelling supporters turn on Giovanni van Bronckhorst come the final whistle.

The report claims that the Besiktas fans began to chant 'tell us coach, why isn’t the team playing?'

This comes with fans taking aim at a lack of tempo and creativity, with Besiktas having only one shot on target in 90 minutes.

Ex-Rangers manager faces music in Turkey

Giovanni van Bronckhorst faced the music come full-time and insists that his full focus is on getting the team back playing in the clash against Gotztepe after the international break.

"We lost a lot of points, we will improve," said Van Bronckhorst. "So I can’t say we threw in the towel.

"We aim to start the next home match against Göztepe with 100%.

"I don’t want to talk about what will happen at the end of the league now. We need to improve in terms of the opportunities we have.

"We lost 9 points, it’s too much. We want to start improving with the Göztepe match.”

The former Rangers manager has also pointed to an ongoing rebuild at Bestikas – something which will sound very familiar to Ibrox fans – after only one window at the club.

With that, Van Bronckhorst insists reinforcements are being eyed by Besiktas as they look to build towards a first league title since 2020/21.

The former Rangers boss also pointed to key players returning from injury.

"The structuring of the squad is not over," said Van Bronckhorst. "We did our best.

"A new transfer period will come, we are aiming for reinforcements in the areas where there is need. There is a situation that requires a process.

"Every transfer period is an opportunity for us. It is not a new situation for me.

"When (Milot) Rashica is not on the field, he is not a player on the sidelines. We take advantage of (Ernest) Muçi by playing him on the wing. We use offensive full-backs at this point.

"We saw that we are dangerous when we play with two wing players. (Ciro) Immobile will return after the national break, Rashica will reach 100 percent and we will have more options.”
