Rangers have had almost as many managers in the past decade than they did in the previous 140 years.

It's a statement that just doesn't seem to be possible and yet the portraits within Ibrox tell the full story with the current manager under pressure.

Philippe Clement inherited a squad of poor quality, but there are worrying signs that he is yet to improve it with Steven Gerrard being linked with a return to Rangers.

Rangers return for Steven Gerrard looks unlikely

The odds tumbled after the defeat to Aberdeen, not just on Clement being removed of his duties, but of Gerrard replacing him too.

The main reason being that the former Gers boss was also in danger of the axe, however, earlier claims of Gerrard's sacking at Al-Ettifaq now appear to be false.

With results not improving, the Saudi Pro League outfit have taken drastic measures but it isn't the Liverpool legend who has lost his job.

Instead, Gerrard's number two Dean Holden and sporting director Mark Allen, also formerly of the G51 parish, have left by mutual consent, with Ettifaq clearly backing their figurehead to come good with the right people alongside him.

Gerrard wouldn't be welcomed back by every Rangers fan

Gerrard isn't portrayed as the messiah that many outsiders would think that he is considered by the Rangers support.

Far from it, with no cup wins in six attempts and one trophy in total out of nine, his time at Rangers is remembered fondly, but with caveats.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Gers great Craig Moore reckons that the return of Gerrard to Rangers wouldn't be as warmly received as some might think:

"I think it would be a mixed bag. I really think it would really be 50/50.

"Yes, he had his success, and the biggest success for the Rangers fans was to stop [Celtic's] ten in a row but it took him three seasons.

"Look John [Hartson], it's a really good question and I have been asked by a few people and my general feeling is, speaking to people and therefore you do get a flavour, it's 50/50 in regards to Steven Gerrard."

If Ettifaq were going to sack Gerrard, they would have done it by now.

Winning 55 was huge for Rangers as was the restoration of the club's European reputation, but he made more than his fair share of mistakes.

Mistakes that it looks like he has repeated, with others paying the price.
