Todd Cantwell left Rangers under a bit of a cloud.

The midfielder’s time at Ibrox did not go the way anyone would have liked or planned despite seemingly getting off on the front foot.

Cantwell was popular with fans to begin with as he looked capable of creating something out nothing on the park and was also a bit of a character off it and someone who was keen to build a bond.

But by the time of his departure for Blackburn Rovers, a lot of supporters were keen to see the back of him anyway.

That was as a result of some social media activity as well as faltering performances on the pitch.

Cantwell opens door to Rangers return

Cantwell wasn’t shy in putting himself out there while at Rangers and has continued to be open in interviews since leaving.

He has aimed swipes at Philippe Clement but remained complimentary about the club as a whole as some of the things he spoke about after signing for Rangers appeared to be genuine.

Cantwell appears to be enjoying life at Blackburn and doing the business on the pitch away from the Glasgow goldfish bowl.

But it seems he will never forget his time at Rangers – and would even be open to a return.

The 26-year-old was responding to a fan account who posted a montage of his time at Ibrox.

And he wrote: “Such a special club, we had some fun.

“You hold a massive piece of my heart.

“Maybe one day again.”

What Cantwell said on Rangers exit

Towards the end of his time at Rangers, Todd Cantwell wasn’t training with the rest of the first-team after Philippe Clement dropped the bombshell he had asked to leave the club.

It was then just a case of trying to find a solution to that and a club for the Englishman to sign for.

After his move to Blackburn, Cantwell said: "It was difficult (training away), it's not a situation you ever want to be in as a player.

"I got on with all the players in the changing room and when you're sat watching that happen, they go out to train, you wonder if you've made the decision or if you're doing the right thing.

"It's difficult as a player but at 26, you get some maturity that there is a bigger picture. That's what I kept telling myself in the hard days. I'm ready to step forward now, get back on the pitch and show where I'm at."

"I definitely think I can be ready to go. I've had some tough sessions and if I can get through that, I can get through games. The management here will be very important here with how I'm integrated back into consistent games in the Championship.
