Rangers summer transfer exit gives 'honest reflection' as dip in form becomes the norm

The saga of the summer was Todd Cantwell downing tools and Rangers having to do without their main playmaker for the Champions League play-offs.

Having looked at one point as if he was going to lead Philippe Clement to an incredible Scottish Premiership title win, the 26-year old failed to maintain the sparkling form that got his team to the top of the league and the rest is history.

Left out of the first team squad during pre-season, Cantwell left the manager with no choice after deciding that he didn't want to play for Rangers, only to leave it to deadline day before joining Blackburn Rovers.

Todd Cantwell opens up on form after Rangers exit

Currently in ninth place in a congested Championship table, Blackburn have been inconsistent from week to week with Cantwell playing off the left-hand side of the attack.

After an impressive start for Blackburn, he is yet to score for the former Premier League champions in 11 appearances, he feels that his best is still to come in a post he shared on Instagram:

"Almost a little bit of a frustrating way for me, I think I've only hit about 70% so far.

"Obviously, that can be deemed as good or bad for whoever you want or whichever way you want to deem it, but I think that's an honest reflection.

"Like you said, I'm always quite honest with myself.

"I've not been overwhelmed with what I've done so far."

Cantwell has a lot to prove after Rangers exit

This move is pretty much make or break for Cantwell after leaving three clubs under a club.

At Rangers, and at his best, Todd Cantwell looked every inch the sort of player that could command the sort of fee that Matt O'Riley left Celtic for to join Brighton, however, the issue was always consistency.

A match winner at his best, the ex-Gers number 13 could frustrate just as often as he delivered.

He wanted to play centrally, and Clement gave him his wish, now on the left for Blackburn, Cantwell is claiming this is where he played his best football for Norwich City.

What chance has the manager got, if the player himself doesn't know?

If he can't find the other 30%, the only assessment is that Cantwell just isn't as good as he thinks he is, or as good as he could have been.
