Jim Goodwin gave an honest appraisal of his Dundee United team's shortcomings in the Scottish Premiership defeat to Rangers.

The Arabs manager would've been looking to get a result against Rangers at Tannadice and his team started brightly in the Scottish Premiership clash.

But despite taking the lead in Dundee, Rangers' superior quality eventually told with Sam Dalby's opener cancelled out by goals from Mohamed Diomande, Robin Propper and Cyriel Dessers.

Jim Goodwin singles out Mohamed Diomande

Jim Goodwin singled out Mohamed Diomande after the midfielder's excellent equaliser for Rangers, a moment which really hauled the Gers into the match.

Whilst the fall-out had been dominated by a controversial red card shown to Diomande which Rangers will appeal, Goodwin was more focused on the Ivorian's 'quality' strike in the first half.

Lashing in a goal from the edge of the Dundee United box, Diomande played a crucial role in the Rangers victory and Goodwin paid tribute come full-time.

"Not a great deal I don't think we can do about the equaliser from Rangers," Goodwin told Sky Sports.

"I thought it was a real bit of quality from Diomande on the edge of the box.

"I thought we had plenty of bodies around it but it was a hell of a strike into the side netting."

'Dundee United were second best to Rangers'

Jim Goodwin also conceded that his Dundee United team were second best to Rangers in the second half of the game.

Rangers really turned things around in the second period and dominated the match with Robin Propper putting the side in front and Cyriel Dessers adding some gloss to the victory.

Goodwin concedes that his side were second best as 2nd place Rangers go 13 points above the 3rd place Arabs in the Scottish Premiership table.

"I thought Rangers won the majority of those first contacts and then picked up a lot of second balls in the midfield," said Goodwin.

"Look, the scoreline could've been a lot different.

"We've hit the woodwork three times here today, albeit one of those was offside.

"Rangers showed the threat that they've got.

"A couple of great finishes as well, Diomande, Dessers one at the end just to put the game to bed.

"We'll have to pick ourselves up now because we've got another difficult one next weekend."
