Rangers got the job done vs Dundee this weekend to stick three more points on the board.

It was not exactly an Ibrox classic but the win was all that mattered for Philippe Clement and his players as Rangers moved into second ahead of Aberdeen for the first time.

Gers created a whole host of opportunities in front of goal – 21 shots in total – but only four of them tested goalkeeper Trevor Carson.

Vaclav Cerny would eventually seal the win for his side but it was a victory which came with some questions even if it was much more comfortable than the scoreline might suggest.

Liam Kelly was rarely troubled as he made a ‘dream’ debut for the club.

Yet one of the questions asked from club legend Kris Boyd who reckons the manager might have been “disappointed” with his team’s lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

The likes of Hamza Igamane, Cerny and Ianis Hagi missed some chances while the latter had a second goal ruled out by VAR for offside.

Kris Boyd says Rangers must be more clinical in front of goal

But Boyd – who knew how to hit the back of the net himself with 167 goals in the former SPL – believes his old team must shape up in an attacking sense.

He saw Gers clinging on to their lead as the clock ticked down and the Dees grew into the game.

And he says Clement might be frustrated his players were unable to end the game as a contest earlier.

The ex-striker did, however, claim it was important for the Light Blues to win the game and ignore the Premier Sports Cup Final.

And he was pleased to see them continue their recent Premiership run.

What Boyd said about Rangers’ win over Dundee

“I think it was important for Rangers to carry on with their league form and they were able to get the three points,” Boyd told Sky Sports News.

“But Philippe Clement will be disappointed with the amount of chances that they created and they failed to kill the game off earlier.

“They were holding on towards the end. There was a couple of opportunities for Dundee.

“The game should have really been out of sight.

“Obviously Cerny got the goal just after half-time, it was a great pass from Danilo through and Cerny goes around [Trevor] Carson and rolls it into the back of the net.

“But Philippe Clement will have been looking for a more convincing victory.”
