Rangers are yet to make any signings this January as the club's support look for Philippe Clement to reinforce the stuttering Ibrox squad.

The Rangers backline is in the midst of a challenging injury crisis with several of the club's most influential players out with injury during the hectic winter schedule.

In the final third, a lack of quality squad depth is costing Rangers as the first-choice Ibrox attackers run out of steam and Clement's squad rotation policy comes under the microscope.

Now, one potential Rangers striker target in Joe Gelhardt is eyeing his next move and according to one journalist, Leeds United are ready to let the hitman leave this January.

Rangers linked to Joe Gelhardt

Rangers were one of a number clubs linked to Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt ahead of the January window opening.

Back in November, the Yorkshire Evening Post even positioned Rangers as favourites to land the 22-year-old Scouser, who has struggled for playing time at Elland Road this season.

Back then, it was claimed Joe Gelhardt was 'enthusiastic' about the prospect of moving to Rangers, one year on from when a deal to bring the striker to Celtic collapsed.

Heading into January, the situation with Joe Gelhardt has been one to watch for Rangers, but the Ibrox club are not the only interested party.

Portsmouth, Stoke City, Plymouth Argyle, Preston North End and a pair of unnamed Belgian clubs were also discussed by the YEP report.

Leeds United make call on 'Rangers target'

Now, Darren Witcoop of the Mirror is reporting that Joe Gelhardt is set to leave Leeds United on a short-term deal this January.

Taking to social media platform X, Witcoop claims that Gelhardt is currently 'weighing his future up' with several Championship enquiries and interest from overseas.

There is no mention of Rangers but the tweet intimates Portsmouth, QPR, Cardiff City, Derby County and Plymouth Argyle are all interested.

The news comes amid some transfer rumblings in the Rangers forward line.

Hamza Igamane has been watched by Premier League clubs whilst Cyriel Dessers reportedly remains a target for Saint Etienne this January.

Rangers have also been linked to a number of strikers themselves, not least South African hitman Iqraam Rayners, who is on explosive form with Mamelodi Sundowns this season.
