Not seen last season, Auchenhowie hopeful returns to scoring ways for Rangers

Rangers have been back in pre-season training for two weeks if you including the initial strength and endurance tests.

The next step is to start playing games with fans eager to see the new signings in action for the first time.

They will also be excited at seeing the proverbial 'new signings' with Danilo and Oscar Cortes both an immediate improvement on the starting XI that finished last season for Rangers.

Rangers will also have a younger appearance to their team this season with Philippe Clement keen to open up the pathway from the academy.

There is talent coming through Auchenhowie and last year proved that if they are given a chance, they can contribute.

Alex Lowry has to prove that his future can be at Rangers

The best example was Ross McCausland.

Is he a world beater? No. But he has shown that he can provide a solid backup option and will always put in an honest shift in a Rangers shirt.

McCausland isn't the most talented player from the current academy crop, however, he is one of the hardest working.

One of the most talented is Alex Lowry.

The Scotland international would have learned a lot from his time at Hearts in the first half of last season.

He earned rave reviews initially and looked set to prove that he was one of the country's future stars.

It was a similar story in his breakthrough season for Rangers too.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst trusted him and the playmaker never let him down.

As with Hearts. It looked like he was here to stay.

Lowry has been training with the first team during pre-season but he will have been given a stark reminder of where his current standing is under Clement.

Lowry scores as B team get season off the ground

According to the Four Lads Had a Dream podcast, Lowry was in B team action against Queens Park on Friday, playing his first game of 2024 after injury ruined his chances of a return for Rangers.

Not only did he play but he scored in a 2-1 win along with Archie Stevens.

Stevens himself will have aspirations of impressing Clement too.

The England youth international is one of the highest rated youngsters at the club and has been linked with a return down south.

If he doesn't get a glimpse of senior football then he might reconsider next time he has the chance.

Lowry has the ability to play for Rangers. His vision, passing range, composure and finishing is as good as any midfielder at the club.

What he has to do now, is add work rate, intensity and physicality to his game.

If he does, he might be scoring goals for Philippe Clement rather than the B team.
