Dujon Sterling joined his Rangers teammates in rolling into Celtic Park believing they could pick up a first Old Firm victory in Glasgow's east-end in over four years.

The Rangers team then rolled out of the stadium displaying a sense of contempt that has offered big encouragement to supporters.

Neil Lennon branded Rangers' first-half display as 'outstanding' with the Gers going on to record a memorable 3-2 victory in the city's east end.

Rangers have been viewed as soft in the Old Firm derby in recent seasons, particularly on trips to Celtic Park, with the club struggling in the fixture since the exit of Steven Gerrard.

But Barry Ferguson has brought the bite back to Rangers when it comes to the Parkhead side, as well as a healthy dose of contempt which has been sorely missing in recent seasons.

Dujon Sterling slaughters Celtic Park on Instagram

Dujon Sterling has had a season interrupted with injury issues and Rangers have missed the versatile defender's physicality and application.

Sterling is a player who gives his all in every game he plays, with technical qualities and an ability to read the game which make him capable of playing in multiple positions.

Against Celtic, Sterling played on the right-hand side of a defensive back-three, providing cover for James Tavernier when it came to Jota and Daizen Maeda.

In an impressive display, Sterling scythed down Jota for a 'good yellow card' whilst the defender stretched out his boot to clear Meada's goal-bound header.

But after the match the Rangers defender has endeared himself even further to the Rangers support by branding Celtic Park a 's*******' on Instagram.

The post reads: "Huge shift by everyone today at that s******* – it doesn't get much better! There's more to come Gers."

Rangers show healthy Old Firm Celtic contempt

Even with the unsavoury language, perhaps even more so, Sterling's Instagram post was always likely to curry favour with Rangers fans.

But it also exemplifies a sense of contempt which the Rangers support feel has been missing from the fixture in recent seasons and returned over the weekend.

Rangers went in and gave Celtic a seriously bloody nose with the Parkhead club's supporters wailing in the aftermath and the Ibrox players leaving a mark on their stadium.

Blowing through the Parkhead like a hurricane, Mohamed Diomande did his best Ryan Kent impression with a Smith & Weston celebration after scoring Rangers' second goal.

Vaclav Cerny has also riled Celtic fans by appearing to squirt some of the Parkhead club's supporters with a water bottle after Hamza Igamane scored a late winner.

Of course, a diplomatic Barry Ferguson didn't see anything.

There's also the Rangers team blaring out I'm Feeling It in the away dressing room, the celebrations forcing James Tavernier to apologise live on Sky Sports.

It's contributed to that a of contempt for Celtic from within the Rangers dressing room, something which we've sorely missed in the last few seasons.

Too often Rangers have rolled into Celtic Park ready to get their belly tickled.

With Ferguson at the helm, Rangers rolled into Glasgow's east end with a point to prove.
