Ianis Hagi has been attracting interest from elsewhere after getting back up to speed for Rangers.

The Romanian was put back into the side after resolving his contract dispute with Gers chiefs and Philippe Clement.

Now a key figure in the team, Hagi is starting most weeks other than when rested as part of the manager and sport science team’s rotation plan.

Not only that, but some have seen him as one of, if not the, best players in the side over recent weeks and months.

During his exile in the B team, the 26-year-old was regularly told to leave Rangers by people back home, including his international manager as he wanted to see get more games.

Transfer interest always seemed to be there after his loan at Alaves and his sparkling form since being back in the fold only seems to have ramped that up.

Serie A side Genoa were said to be “very close” in their their attempts to sign the Gers star.

Before that, Borussia Monchengladbach were named as a likely destination for Hagi.

The Genoa link doesn’t seem to be going away but the latest update may reassure Light Blues fans.

Genoa plan £1.5m Hagi offer

That’s because the Italians are reportedly ready to submit a lowball offer for the in-form playmaker.

According to Tuttosport, they are preparing to attempt to complete the signing for just €1.5million, which is £1.2m.

The report adds that Rangers would not be willing to sell the player for that amount and that comes as no surprise as the expectation would be that he would be valued considerably higher than that.

Genoa are owned by Hagi’s countryman Dan Țucu, who has previously tried to sign him for this other club, FCSB.

But he would have to up his bid significantly if he was to be successful this time.

Rangers may have to offer Hagi new deal

All that said, Rangers may have to offer the Romania international a new contract to protect their asset.

Currently, his deal at Ibrox runs until the summer of 2026, so there are only around 18 months remaining on it.

If it gets to this summer without an extension being added, clubs will start to look at Hagi as someone they could potentially get on the cheap.

It may be why Genoa are already trying to lowball and other clubs might get the same idea.
