Rangers linked to Croatian midfielder

Rangers have been linked with a January move for NK Varazdin midfielder Leon Belcar but the Ibrox side could face stiff competition for the 22-year-old's signature.

According to reports in Croatia, Rangers, Club Brugge and AZ Alkmaar are all interested in signing Belcar, who has been making a big impression in Croatia.

The defensive midfielder is viewed as a potential alternative to another Croat option in Marko Soldo and Rangers do appear keen to strengthen the middle of the park.

Gers ordered to pay transfer compensation

Speaking of midfielders, reports had claimed Rangers had been ordered to pay an initial £600k fee for the signing of Connor Barron from Aberdeen.

But the furious Dons have gone public with the details of the transfer in order to clarify to their own fans, with the pre-contract Barron deal potentially set to cost closer to £900k.

In a strongly-worded statement, Aberdeen revealed that an SFA tribunal have ordered Rangers to pay an initial £639,920 with an additional £250k on performance-based payments.

Also having a 10% sell-on attached to the Connor Barron deal, Aberdeen have demanded an 'urgent review' into development compensation at international and national level.

Rangers left-back Robbie Fraser is reportedly a wanted man this January with English Championship strugglers Portsmouth said to have been eyeing a £200k deal.

But the club's manager has since moved to deny the reports amid a furious backlash from frustrated Rangers fans.

Explaining to the BBC, Pompey manager John Mousinho insists there is 'nothing in' rumours the Fratton Park side have an eye on Robbie Fraser.
