Norwich City have added former Blackburn Rovers, Coventry City and Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson to their academy coaching team, it has emerged.

Norwich City were one of multiple teams to have Simeon Jackson on the books during his playing days, with Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City among those he represented further down the line.

Jackson first made a name for himself with Rushden & Diamonds and Gillingham before a move to Norwich City in 2010. Three years yielded 21 goals in 86 games and after a brief spell abroad in Germany, he returned to England with Millwall.

A short stay at The Den was followed a by a year at Coventry City and after three goals and two assists in 30 games, he left for Barnsley. Another short-term stint for Jackson was ended by a move to Blackburn Rovers, where the Canadian managed two goals and two assists in 19 games.

Jackson continued to bounce between clubs in the following years, enduring spells at Walsall, Grimsby Town, St. Mirren, Kilmarnock and Stevenage before seeing out his career with a fruitful non-league stay at Chelmsford City.

He hung up his boots in the summer of 2023 and now a coach, Jackson is back in familiar surroundings.

As confirmed reported by the Pink Un, the 49-time Canada international has returned to Norwich City as part of the academy coaching team.

Putting experience to use

Jackson has been there and done that and that experience will only serve him well at Norwich City.

Having played regularly on the international stage, in the Premier League and for big clubs such as the Canaries, Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City all after making his way up from non-league, he’ll have valuable pedigree to pass onto young players at Carrow Road.

He was still a fairly young and raw player when he arrived in Norfolk in 2010, so he’ll know all about the expectations and rigours of academy football as many of these young players continue to find their feet in the game.

Jackson will make up a key part of the refreshed academy setup at Norwich.

Future prospects

Norwich City have had a number of first-team prospects come through the academy over the years and there’s an exciting batch of hopefuls pushing for breakthroughs under Johannes Hoff Thorup too.

Brad Hills and Gabe Forsyth have been around the first-team, as have the likes of Lucien Mahovo and Elliot Myles amid injury problems.

Youngsters recruited from elsewhere such as Kellen Fisher and Oscar Schwartau will also benefit from having people like Jackson around the training ground.
