Stoke City host Burnley in the Championship on Saturday afternoon with both sides looking to pick up a valuable three points.
Stoke City come into the clash with Burnley bidding to end their recent streak of draws.
The Potters have seen the last three games end level, drawing 0-0 with Stoke City on Tuesday night. They dominated possession but only mustered one shot in target while Freddie Woodman saw red late on.
Narcis Pelach has overseen welcome improvements since taking over from Steven Schumacher. His side sit 14th in the Championship table as it stands.
Burnley meanwhile claimed a solid 2-0 win over Coventry City in the week. Goals from Jerermy Sarmiento and CJ Egan-Riley secured the victory at Turf Moor.
As such, Scott Parker’s side have now won three straight without conceding. It leaves them 3rd in the table, level on points with 4th placed Sunderland and two points behind Sheffield United and Leeds United.
There have been criticisms of the Clarets’ attacking output but with just six goals conceded in 17 games, they’re proving very tough to beat.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
James Ray
“Stoke City have made some good strides forward under Pelach but they’re very much a work in progress. They’re in for a real test against Burnley this weekend with the Clarets in a good streak of form.
“Many have reservations over Parker and the Clarets but they’ve got the foundations of a promotion-winning team. Their defensive record is pretty remarkable and they had the cutting edge to kill tee game against Coventry.
“If they can rediscover the goalscoring form they started the season in, they’re going to take some stopping.
“I can see this being a close game though. Stoke are a tougher side than they have been but I’m not sure they’ll have enough to take anything from this one.”
Prediction: Stoke City 0-1 Burnley
Harry Mail
“Stoke City are still a work in progress right now under Narcis Pelach. He could do with the January window coming quick so he can add some of his own players into his newly inherited squad.
“Burnley just don’t concede goals and they are finding ways to grind out wins. They are well in the promotion race as they eye an immediate return to the Premier League.
“It may not be the most entertaining football but it seems to be working for Parker so far.
“I can see them extending their impressive run with another victory at the Bet365 Stadium in this one.”
Prediction: Stoke City 0-2 Burnley
