Stoke City had young winger D’Margio Wright-Phillips on the books for three-and-a-half years before his summer exit.

Stoke City brought D’Margio Wright-Philips into their ranks as a youngster, signing him following his exit from Manchester City’s academy in 2021.

He had caught the eye in the City setup and spent a short spell on loan with Blackburn Rovers’ youngsters. However, it was with the Potters where he made his senior breakthrough.

After some strong displays at academy level, Wright-Phillips got a shot with the first-team and early on, the winger cemented himself as an exciting prospect. He put in some promising displays and scored his first Championship goal against Fulham in January 2022.

Wright-Phillips stayed in and around the Stoke City first-team for much of the calendar year and added a second club goal against Middlesbrough in August. However, a drop down the pecking order prompted a loan exit.

The attacking prospect endured a tough spell at Northampton Town and earlier this year, the decision was made to send Wright-Phillips on loan to Beerschot VA. He would end up joining the Belgian side on a free transfer following after being let go by the Potters.

How has Wright-Phillips fared since?

In his first stint with Beerschot, it took Wright-Phillips a bit of time to get into the starting XI. However, in a run of four straight starts, he managed three goals and one assist towards the tail end of the season.

Unfortunately, the 23-year-old hasn’t been able to build on that upturn in form yet since joining permanently from Stoke City.

Wright-Phillips appeared as a substitute in seven of the first eight league games but has not made an appearance since. He was an unused substitute in games against Royal Antwerp and KVC Westerlo and has been absent from the matchday squad for the past four matches.

He will be eager to break back into the side to get back to his dangerous best.

Tapping into his potential again

Wright-Phillips emerged as an exciting prospect at Stoke City and his form in the latter stages of last season served as a reminder of just what he’s capable of at a senior level.

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

The start to the current campaign has been challenging, but the Belgian top-flight is a league that has produced a lot of top prospects, holding a strong reputation for the development of young players.

Wright-Phillips will be hoping that can help him get back to his best at Beerschot VA as he looks to maximise the potential he possesses.
