Sheffield United, Stoke City and Preston North End are all interested in Aberdeen left-back Jack McKenzie, according to The Scottish Sun.

Sheffield United, Stoke City and Preston North End were all active in the summer transfer window but are sure to have eyes on further additions when January comes around.

That will especially be the case for the Potters and the Lilywhites given their early managerial changes. Paul Heckingbottom replaced Ryan Lowe at Deepdale while a gamble was taken on Narcis Pelach at the Bet365 Stadium.

At Bramall Lane, the target is to win promotion back to the Premier League. Chris Wilder rebuilt the ranks in the summer but could yet eye further signings to aid their push.

Now, it is claimed the Championship trio are all eyeing Jack McKenzie.

According to The Scottish Sun, all of Sheffield United, Stoke City and Preston North End want to sign the Aberdeen defender. The 24-year-old has just broken into the Scotland national side and sees his contract expire next summer.

There’s hope he’ll pen a new deal at Pittodrie but his Championship admirers are holding out hope that they can sign him for nothing next year.

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

More on MacKenzie

MacKenzie is a product of the Aberdeen academy and has played 103 times for the club. He’s enjoying the best form of his career, hence the interest from the likes of Sheffield United, Stoke City and Preston.

The left-back has played every minute of the Scottish Premiership campaign, helping his side win every game so far. Across all competitions, he has a goal and four assists to his name in 13 outings.

His impressive form has earned him a maiden call-up to the Scotland squad for their ongoing fixtures. On occasion, he has operated as a wing-back and left-sided centre-back as well.

A needed addition?

While MacKenzie offers his services in other roles, there’s no really scope for him to come in and play regularly at Sheffield United.

The Blades have summer signings Harrison Burrows and Sam McCallum as their main options at left-back. Both Stoke City and Preston have two players in their left-sided roles but there could be openings.

Eric Bocat is the main left-back for the Potters with Enda Stevens also on the books but Pelach could look to enact change and freshen things up in his first window. The same goes for Heckingbottom at Preston with the likes of Kian Best, Andrew Hughes and Robbie Brady able to cover the left wing-back and full-back roles.
