Stoke City are looking into recalling Nathan Lowe from his loan spell with Walsall ahead of the January window, as per Darren Witcoop.

Stoke City are having a season to forget at the minute with the call to sack Steven Schumacher failing to lead to the upturn in results and performances they wanted.

As the season goes on, the sacking looks more and more like a poor decision. Narcis Pelach was appointed and the Potters have gone downhill ever since.

They now find themselves in 19th place, just four points above the relegation zone. They look set for yet another hectic transfer window in an attempt to change their fortunes.

Signings will be eyed by Stoke City, but they could also take action over the players already contracted to the club. According to Darren Witcoop, reporting on X, the Championship side are considering bringing Nathan Lowe amid his starring loan with Walsall.

Across all competitions, Lowe has 13 goals and six assists to his name in 26 games for the Saddlers. His efforts have helped them sit top of the League Two table at Christmas.

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

Lowe in, Ennis out?

With Lowe’s potential return, it opens the door for Stoke City to allow another striker to depart.

The most likely candidate is former Plymouth Argyle man Niall Ennis. Ennis was brought to the club by Steven Schumacher who had coached him at Home Park, but he has failed to make an impact, scoring just once since his arrival last January.

Ennis is of interest to League One promotion hopefuls Barnsley and should Lowe be recalled, Ennis could be free to make the move back down to the third tier.

What next for Stoke City?

Stoke City are without a win in eight games and have lost four of their last five. Pelach’s side are having a terrible time and the 2-0 loss to 10-man Sheffield Wednesday last time out encapsulated how things are going for them at the moment.

Things don’t get easier for the Potters either. Their next opponent is 2nd-placed Leeds United, who come to the Bet365 Stadium on Boxing Day.

Burnley and Sunderland, who sit in 3rd and 4th, follow the visit of the Whites. Considering the quality of their next three opponents, Stoke City could easily be closer to the relegation zone by the New Year.
