Andy's Player Ratings: Blackburn 2-2 Sunderland - Late drama at Ewood Park
Yesterday at 12:00 PM
Sunderland came from behind once again in the second half, only to concede a late equaliser which sent us home with a point against a tough Blackburn side. Here's how Andy rated the Lads…
Anthony Patterson: 6/10
Despite Blackburn being on top in the first half, Patterson didn't have a lot to do and not much he could have done about the goal. Got a hand on the equaliser but I thought he could have rushed out to stop it before the shot happened.
Trai Hume: 6/10
Didn't get forward enough during the game but defended well throughout.
Chris Mepham: 7/10
His passing was quite poor in the first half but that improved as the game went on, made some important blocks during the game, with two very good ones in the second half.
Luke O'Nien: 7/10
Defended well, even before the break when we were under more pressure. Made an ugly tackle on Gueye for which he got booked but that prevented a dangerous break.
Dennis Cirkin: 6/10
Was better in the second half but looked sluggish in the first half, both on and off the ball. Almost won it late on and provided more support for Mayenda in the second half.
Dan Neil (C): 8/10
Dragged us back into the game superbly in the second half, provided an overlapping run and cross that led to Rigg's goal and then a superb touch and ball out to Roberts led to the second. Was tidy in the first half but the best player on the pitch in the second.
Jobe Bellingham: 7/10
Like Rigg he struggled to get involved in the first half but grew into the game and Blackburn struggled to get near him after the break. Had one well hit shot curl just over after an Isidor cut back.
Patrick Roberts: 6/10
Set up the second goal after picking out Isidor and was involved in almost winning it at the death after cutting inside and getting a shot off. Was outnumbered too often in the first half but had loads of room after the break, didn't always use the ball well but caused lots of problems.
Chris Rigg: 7/10
Struggled to get involved in the first half, didn't do anything wrong but just couldn't get a foothold in the game. Much better after the break, got on the ball a lot more and was combining better with his teammates down the right. Unfortunately went off injured but managed to drag us back into the game thanks to a well timed run into the box and a composed finish.
Eliezer Mayenda: 6/10
Should have won it in injury time after Isidor played him in but never got his head up and couldn't decide whether to shoot or go around the goalkeeper, did neither and the chance was wasted. Caused problems down the left, even though he doesn't look comfortable there.
Wilson Isidor: 7/10
Anonymous in the first half, with very little support around him but as the team attacked after the break he was integral. Scored the second goal with a clever backheeled finish, held the ball up much better and set up chances for Jobe and Isidor.
Substitutes
Adil Aouchiche: 6/10
Came on late following Rigg's injury.
Man of the Match: Dan Neil
Continued his recent good form, where he was the catalyst for the team getting back into the game after going behind. Heavily involved in both goals, ran the game for most of the first half and was one of our better players in the first half too.
