Sunderland owned forward Nazariy Rusyn has thanked the Championship side following his transfer to Hajduk Split.

The 26-year-old has been sent to the Croatian club on loan until the end of the season after finding his chances limited at Sunderland this season.

Sportske have covered comments the Ukrainian has made to Hajduk Split's official website in which he praised Sunderland for their role in allowing him to join his new club.

Rusyn said he's now looking ahead to performing for the Croatian giants and is keen to help them in the second half of the season.

"I’d like to thank the management of Sunderland and Hajduk for the professionalism they showed during this transfer and the fact that they went out of their way to accommodate me. I can’t wait to play in front of the legendary Hajduk fans and help the team achieve its goals for this season," said the Sunderland loanee.

The former Ukraine U21 international signed for Sunderland from FC Zorya Luhansk in 2023, but has never cemented a place in the starting eleven. He's struggled for goals since his arrival at the Stadium of Light, scoring just twice in 18 months.

His move to Croatia could help him kickstart his career after his difficulties in England during the past couple of seasons. He's contracted to Sunderland until June 2027, but his future with the club looks uncertain.
