Sunderland make it five wins out of five under Graeme Murty thanks to Ben Crompton’s double against Norwich City in the Premier League 2.

After a tense start to the game Sunderland took the lead through Crompton after he fired home from close range after being on the end of Jenson Jones' low cross in the 28th minute.

The Black Cats doubled their lead in the 78th minute after Harrison Jones delivered an inviting corner which was nodded home from close range again by Crompton picking up his second of the night.

Sunderland scored their third in the 85th minute through Jaydon Jones after he latched onto Cuba Mitchells through-ball and calmly slotted home confirming all three points for Sunderland.

The start of the game was very open with both goalkeepers having to be alert but it was Sunderland who broke the deadlock thanks to Crompton being in the right place at the right time to smash home Jones’ low cross from the byline just before the half hour mark.

Sunderland maintained their lead going into half-time meaning it was all to play for in the second half, which gave Norwich confidence resulting in a flurry of chances just after half-time with Sunderland just about holding on.

Sunderland relieved some of the Norwich pressure by doubling their lead in the 78th minute after Crompton reacted first to a deep corner from Jones to ease the tension going into the final ten minutes of the game

The Black Cats sealed the three points after a fine passage of play was finished off by Jones who was slipped through by Mitchell to cap off a top performance in east Anglia.

“We do a lot of work on set pieces, we always identify the opponents weaknesses” Crompton told Safc.com “With me being one of the bigger lads, I’m always a good threat.”

The work on the training ground has clearly paid off for the Black Cats and Crompton who benefitted from being the target man in the box during set pieces.

“On a personal level it’s just about getting the minutes in, getting good performances in and hopefully trying to progress.” Crompton added to his post match interview.

The win lifts Sunderland into the top half of the Premier League 2 table as they return home next Saturday to face Manchester United U21 looking to continue their rich vein of form.
