"He doesn't look happy to be here" – Former Tottenham man makes big claim regarding 28-year-old amid uncertain future at Spurs

Timo Werner's time with Tottenham has not been the best, as former club scout Bryan King has suggested that the German forward may not be entirely be happy with his current role.
Despite his crucial opening goal in Spurs' 2-1 win over Manchester City in the League Cup, it appears Werner might be struggling with limited playing opportunities and an uncertain future at the club.
King recently voiced concerns, noting that Werner's body language on the pitch doesn't reflect enthusiasm, indicating that he may feel his status warrants more starting chances.
However, King also believes that the 28-year-old has yet to prove he deserves a regular spot, and he feels Tottenham should have considered parting ways with the player after last season's loan.
Speaking to Tottenham News, King said:
"He doesn't look happy to be there.
"Whenever he comes onto the pitch he seems to look unhappy. Perhaps he thinks he should be starting due to his reputation.
"However, he isn't proving to anybody that he deserves to be starting. In my opinion, Spurs should have thanked him for his efforts in the summer and allowed him to leave the club after last season."
Timo Werner: Time at Tottenham so far
Werner joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig in January 2024, with an option for a permanent move. His positive impression in the latter half of last season led to an extended loan for another season and a buy option valued at around £8.5 million.
This season, however, Werner has largely played a supporting role, with only two Premier League starts and most of his appearances coming from the bench. Over 12 appearances in all competitions, he has contributed a single goal and an assist in just over 500 minutes on the field.
His restricted game time likely adds to his frustration, especially as he remains behind Tottenham' captain, Heung-min Son, in the lineup, on the left-wing.
When he has played, he has failed to make any significant impact, rather, has been guilty of missing several one-on-one chances.
Additionally, manager Ange Postecoglou's decision to promote 17-year-old academy prospect Mikey Moore to the first team emphasises the club's priority of developing young talent over providing extended minutes to a loanee like Werner.
Moore's recent Premier League start underlines Postecoglou's focus on future squad building, making it likely that Moore's progression will take precedence over Werner's playing time.
Tottenham's decision to retain Werner after this season remains uncertain, with recent reports suggesting that the club is ready to sanction the departure of the German. With his quality clear but involvement limited, Spurs may evaluate other options for squad depth.
