Newcastle United's form has certainly taken a turn for the better in recent games, partly thanks to the incredible goalscoring of Alexander Isak.

Against Ipswich Town, Isak took his tally to 10 goals in 15 Premier League games for Newcastle this season – numbers aided by scoring six in his last four league matches.

It's no coincidence that Newcastle's results have improved after Isak has shrugged off a slightly sluggish start to the new campaign, and he now looks back to his imperious best.

That being said, the Sweden international isn't able to operate alone up top – his form has also been indebted to both Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy on the wings.

Gordon's quality and determination is widely known at this point, but Murphy himself continues to prove everyone wrong, a player many Newcastle fans have often wanted replaced.

Alexander Isak praises Jacob Murphy after ‘beautiful’ backheel assist

Speaking to Optus Sport, it was Murphy who Isak chose to praise after Newcastle's 4-0 win, one in which the English winger scored and assisted.

As mentioned, Murphy has often been seen as something of an unfashionable option for Newcastle – he's not a brand new £40m right-winger who effortlessly cuts onto his left-foot.

However, the 29-year-old has been superb of late and deserves all the praise he can get from Isak, who said he was 'screaming' at his teammate to find him with his backheel assist.

Isak said: "He obviously didn't see me but I was screaming behind him, I was screaming a lot so he could probably hear that I was behind him.

"But yeah, it was a beautiful assist and [I'm] happy to score that one so that he could get that assist as well."

Pressed further on Murphy's form, Isak replied: "We know he's a high-quality player, I haven't seen him do a backheel assist yet but he's very versatile in this game.

"I'm not too shocked but it was good to see."

Jacob Murphy will need to be akin to a new signing for Eddie Howe

Of course, Murphy is now beginning to change the discourse at St James' Park – his contributions can only be downplayed for so long.

In fact, Newcastle fans loved Murphy's performance against Ipswich, with some even claiming that the winger was playing like Cristiano Ronaldo in his prime.

Perhaps that's a little far, but it's clear that Murphy can be a huge asset for Eddie Howe moving forward.

Newcastle will be quiet in January – Howe has been told that he is unlikely to see his top two targets arrive mid-season.

Although, it still doesn't seem as if Newcastle's expectations for Howe this season will be reduced even though he's not necessarily been given the new signings he may have hoped for.

But just like Murphy, Howe deserves credit for inspiring his winger to this level of performance on a consistent basis.
