Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both hoping to make some signings this month in order to boost their ailing Premier League campaigns.

The Red Devils currently sit 12th in the Premier League table, while Spurs are languishing in 15th place.

Both Manchester United and Tottenham have been after defensive reinforcements over the past few weeks.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have won the race for an “important” defender Spurs previously led the way for in terms of interest.

Manchester United win Patrick Dorgu race ahead of Tottenham

Romano has taken to X to declare “here we go” on Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United.

Back in November, TBR Football confirmed that Tottenham were the leading Premier League club when it came to interest in Dorgu.

And earlier in January, it was reported that Ange Postecoglou wanted Tottenham to step up their pursuit of Dorgu in wake of Destiny Udogie’s injury.

However, the Red Devils raced ahead, with TBR Football confirming earlier on Tuesday that Lecce had accepted Man United’s offer.

And on Tuesday evening, Romano reported that a verbal agreement is now in place between the Red Devils and Lecce.

The transfer insider added that the documentation will be checked in the next 24 hours for a deal that could be worth up to £30million.

Romano also spoke about Dorgu on his YouTube channel, saying Man United are already planning for the player’s travel to England.

The transfer insider described the Denmark international as an “important addition for the present and future of Man United”.

How Manchester United and Tottenham have fared in the January transfer window

Should everything go to plan, then Dorgu will become Ruben Amorim’s first signing at Manchester United.

In terms of first-team departures, Man United have allowed Antony to join Real Betis on loan.

As for transfer links, Man United have been in talks with Chelsea over Christopher Nkunku with Alejandro Garnacho a candidate to go to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, youngsters Joe Hugill, Ethan Ennis, Ethan Williams and Ethan Wheatley have gone on loan to EFL clubs.

As for Tottenham, they already have one signing on board, having landed Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague.

Spurs have also recalled Dane Scarlett from his Oxford United loan, while Yang Min-Hyeok has arrived from Gangwon FC after a deal was struck in the summer.

Tottenham’s departures so far have all been at academy loans, with Matthew Craig, Alfie Dorrington and Luca Gunter all exiting N17 until the end of the season.

Spurs have been linked with players in other positions, with Brian Brobbey said to be keen on a switch to Tottenham and Eric Garcia having been offered to Spurs.
