Plymouth Argyle have accepted an improved offer from Middlesbrough for Burnley target Morgan Whittaker, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Whittaker is on his way out at Home Park and is pushing for an exit from the Championship strugglers.

Burnley saw an offer for the attacker turned down, but have remained interested, while Scott Parker a firm admirer of what he brings to the table.

Now, where Burnley failed, Middlesbrough have succeeded and Plymouth have accepted an improved offer for Whittaker.

Michael Carrick’s men are paying £6m plus add-ons to sign Whittaker in the winter window.

Their first offer was of £4m plus add-ons, but they have had to increase the up front cash amount to get an offer accepted.

Carrick will hope that Whittaker can be a difference maker when it comes to pushing Middlesbrough towards promotion this season.

All eyes will be on whether Burnley come in with a late hijack attempt now it is clear just how much they would have to pay to land him.
