Player who could go to Chelsea this month now left out of FA Cup squad days after manager said he would start

Chelsea eased into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 5-0 win over Morecambe on Saturday.

Two goals each from Tosin Adarabioyo and Joao Felix – as well as a strike by Christopher Nkunku – saw the Blues knock the League Two side out at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca could boast talents such as Cole Palmer, Jadon Sancho, Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson on his Chelsea bench – and the Italian may soon have another option at his disposal after an interesting development at Crystal Palace on Sunday involving Trevoh Chalobah.

Trevoh Chalobah not even on the bench for Crystal Palace vs Stockport despite Oliver Glasner admission

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the FA Cup clash between Crystal Palace and Stockport, Oliver Glasner said: “It looks like we'll start with Trevoh Chalobah back in. Him, Chris Richards and Marc Guehi have all missed games.”

However, when the starting lineup was announced earlier on Sunday, the Chelsea loanee was nowhere to be seen – not even on the bench.

It comes just days after Maresca said “we will see” when asked to address rumours Chelsea could recall the central defender from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, stating: “Trev is a good player but in this moment he is a Palace player, so we will see.”

Chelsea could take another defender from Crystal Palace in Marc Guehi

We doubt a move will happen this month if Glasner does lose Chalobah, although Chelsea are also keen to take Marc Guehi back from Crystal Palace – after selling the England international in an £18m deal back in July 2021.

TBR Football understand Chelsea want Guehi back from their London rivals – although Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde of Barcelona are also under consideration as well.

Presumably, Crystal Palace will make these negotiations very difficult for Chelsea if the Blues take Chalobah away from his productive loan spell in SE25 – where he has scored three goals in 12 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Liverpool also like Guehi – so Chelsea face competition for the defender’s signature regardless of whether they upset Crystal Palace or not.
