Newcastle are taking the Carabao Cup back to Tyneside after defeating Liverpool at Wembley.

The Magpies have also secured £100,000 in prize money in winning their first major domestic trophy since 1955, on a night the Toon Army will never forget.

Newcastle will also be given a set of medals to distribute amongst the players and backroom staff after the Carabao Cup final win, but will Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly – who left St James’ Park in January for Atlanta and Juventus respectively – receive one?

Newcastle decide whether Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly get medals

Newcastle will receive 30 medals to hand out amongst themselves, and it will be left up to the Magpies to decide who gets one.

Almiron, who could’ve moved to Saudi Arabia, made four appearances in the Carabao Cup before heading to Major League Soccer in January, featuring in the quarter-final win over Brentford and the 2-0 win over Arsenal in the first leg of the semi-final.

In regards to Kelly, who Tottenham considered signing, the defender played three Carabao Cup games before his move to Turin, also featuring in the first leg of the semi-final, as well as the third and fourth round wins over Wimbledon and Chelsea.

Therefore, nobody can argue that the duo didn’t play their part, but with 20 players in the matchday squad at Wembley who will expect to receive medals, there aren’t many to go around, with staff members also surely hopeful of taking one home.

The Slovakia international made two appearances in the Carabao Cup while on loan at Manchester United that season, before eventually being recalled to Newcastle before the final.

However, Dubravka was still eligible to receive a medal for Manchester United’s victory, despite his return to Newcastle before the final.
