Tom Cleverley admitted he did aim higher than a total of five points from the last three games, but says he is happy with the progress and togetherness his side are showing.

A run of three games in eight days saw draws away at Plymouth Argyle and at home to QPR, with a 1-0 victory over Bristol City at Vicarage Road in between.

Despite not losing over the eight-day period, the Head Coach would have liked to have seen a few more points added to the Hornets’ tally.

“We are unbeaten from the three games but we would have aimed higher than five,” Cleverley explained.

“But the defensive stability looks like it is nearly there.

“I thought we were unfortunate at Plymouth to concede two, but a little bit fortunate not to concede against QPR.

“We are looking like we are getting our defensive stability back, which can help.

“Then we just need to have a total football performance where we are combining that with the attacking output.

“Against QPR, the defenders get a pat on the back with a clean sheet, and the goalkeeper was excellent with two saves, but we stick together as a team and don’t start pointing fingers at our strikers.

“We are going to have frustrating days. It is a long old season.

“We have big ambitions internally and I want to keep striving after those.”

The draw against the Hoops extended the unbeaten record at Vicarage Road under Cleverley to 15 matches.

He expressed his happiness with such a record, but believes the fact he was most happy with the performance at Plymouth Argyle means he is not concerned about Watford’s away form either ahead of their trip to Cardiff City next Saturday (December 7, 3pm KO).

“It is a record we are really proud of, and it is a connection with our supporters we are extremely proud of which we have managed to build," Cleverley said.

“To take four points [from Bristol City & QPR] shows good resilience and character from the squad.

“Now it is all about us getting to the bottom of why we are a bit flatter and striving for the complete performance.

“If you go off the process of the last three performances, the Plymouth performance is by far the best.

“That is the performance I am happiest with from the last three, so no worries about the away form for us within the squad.

“We have been competitive in the last four away games, so there is no extra pressure on the players.

“I am sure we will turn up next week.”
