Mattie Pollock spoke to watfordfc.com after the Hornets fell to a 2-1 defeat at Coventry City.

Read on for the defender’s thoughts…

Reflections on the game:

“Frustrated, gutted. We found ourselves leaving it to the last 10 minutes.

“There’s no doubt we showed effort until the very last minute but at this moment in time we’re just lacking that bit of quality, including keeping the ball out of our net. We’re letting people down and it’s something we’ve got to put right.

“It’s not all doom and gloom, football moves fast and we need to put things right for the next game. It’s an upset changing room in there because we’ve let ourselves down today. Coventry’s a tough place to come, we knew it would be tough but we felt we could have done better.”

On the reason for Watford’s recent form:

“I’m not sure, there’s been a lot of games over Christmas but no excuses.

“We have a lot of experience but also a lot of young lads who are experiencing the Championship for the first time and it’s a tough league. The games come fast, we’ve all been a little bit tired but it’s not good enough.

“Everybody’s working hard and the fans are right behind us every game. I feel we’re letting the manager down as a group of players – he sets us up the right way, he puts us in the right positions and gives us the right information and that’s why it hurts.

“Right now, we feel like we’re letting him down and the staff down but I’m sure we’ll be back. It’s a crazy league and with the fans’ support and the manager behind us, I’m sure with the effort we’re putting in it’ll turn around.”

On wearing the captain’s armband again:

“I love being captain. It was one of the proudest days of my life against Derby.

“I’m really proud to wear the armband at a club like Watford but right now it’s about winning games and we’re just falling short of that. All I care about is winning games for the fans, for the manager and for the club.”

On the full-time scenes with the fans:

“I felt personally there was a real connection there. I’ve never felt part of something so special as that moment; I’ve never stood there and not wanted to move.

“The fans stuck with us throughout the game and to be there in that many numbers and singing, it was a special feeling. The fact it’s coming off a bad result, you can see how special the gaffer is to the club and to us.

“It was a real special feeling and it’s a shame we couldn’t get the three points because it would’ve been even more special.

“Thank you to the fans, they’ve been amazing all season but that was something different and I’ve never seen that before. I’m just gutted we couldn’t repay them with a win.”
