Al Ahly have been dealt a blow ahead of Friday’s CAF Champions League clash against CR Belouizdad.
The Egyptian football powerhouse’s captain Mohamed El Shenawy has picked an injury with the team set to travel to Algeria to face Belouizdad.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper was a noticeable absentee as Al Ahly drew 0-0 with ENPPI in the Egyptian Premier League clash on Monday.
Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller revealed that El Shenawy got a ‘negative test’, hence Mostafa Shobeir started between the sticks.
"El-Shenawy got a negative rest so that Mostafa Shobeir can gain the sensitivity of the matches,” Kohler said on the club’s website.
El Shenawy, who is also Egypt’s number-one keeper, has played four Egyptian Premier League matches this season and kept two clean sheets.
He has won four CAF Champions League titles and seven Egyptian Premier League trophies with Al Ahly.
